INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY

My therapeutic style is open, curious, and reflective, but also direct. I come with questions and hold space as you share your experience. I teach breathing, relaxation, and mindfulness exercises, as it is important to calm the body and observe your experience. My approach is informed by evidence-based treatments, such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based techniques. 

Our work together may assist you in:

  • Increasing awareness in your life about your emotional experiences, physical reactions, behavioral patterns, and relationship dynamics.

  • Understanding the root of problems. 

  • Learning how to manage upset in healthy ways, such as building tolerance to feel emotions, cope with stress, and breathe fully. 

  • Exploring your values and working towards living a values-based life by ensuring that you are engaged in what is truly meaningful to you.

  • Untangling and shifting deeply held beliefs by gaining new perspectives and healing negative self talk. 

  • Processing relevant current or past experiences, such as life transitions, difficult situations, or traumatic experiences.

SLEEP TREATMENT

Sleep is an important part of your health to invest in. Treatment begins with a thorough intake assessment to get a detailed picture of the challenges, routines, and environment. If insomnia is present, treatment consists of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which is the gold standard treatment. CBT-Insomnia is typically for 2-3 months depending on progress and severity. Sleep is physiological, so it takes time before benefits are noticeable (just like diet and exercise). Treatment includes weekly visits, completing sleep logs, addressing life stressors, and breaking associations. This therapy requires a strong commitment from you to make changes. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it! 

If nightmares are present, we will work to understand if they are associated with trauma or life stressors. I offer doing Image Rehearsal Therapy, which works on changing the dreams without going into the trauma. However, trauma processing, if relevant, can also be helpful. We can similarly work with your subconscious to understand and process your feelings in relation to the dreams as well as your waking life. 

HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY & WELLNESS

When there is illness and dis-ease in the physical body, it is in relation to disruptions or imbalances in one's life. Mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health are intricately connected, so we will take a broad, holistic view of your whole self in relation to your environment to get a rich understanding of what's going on. The concept of spirit is based on how you relate to it and can pertain to your connection to nature. We will explore what your experience has been like with the medical system and treatments to date. We can bring in knowledge from your ancestors and elders to support you. I can assist you in learning how to better manage and cope with conditions such as chronic pain, digestive problems, and dizziness. We will address your relationship with the illness as well as any barriers to care. Similarly, we can look at ways to engage in safe movement and healthy behaviors overall. 

LISTENING TO SPIRIT & PLANT MEDICINE INTEGRATION

For those who would like to step outside the box of traditional psychotherapy, we can explore other avenues of receiving information, such as listening to nature, finding symbolism, and using oracle cards. We can connect with ancestral wisdom as well as familial and community elders. We can incorporate music, instruments, and movement into your healing. The guidance and medicine is within you, we just need to listen and follow the direction it takes us. 

In the Western world, there’s a growing body of research that shows the effectiveness of psychedelics for treating a wide array of conditions. However, many indigenous cultures and wisdom traditions have been connecting with plant spirits for thousands of years. Psychedelic experiences can be confusing, beautiful, ambiguous, and symbolic. I offer a safe a space to process and integrate one's experience during a plant medicine ceremony for healing purposes. This can be for one or as many sessions as needed.
